Camping in the fall season has so much to offer to typical summer RVers. While summer is synonymous with swimming, lying on the beach, boating, and hiking, fall can offer a slight variation on the same activities and more.
Benefits to traveling in the fall for inside the RV include: being able to turn off the AC, opening up the windows and letting the fresh air in, comfortable sleeping weather, and using the oven to open up a new variety of cooking options.
While the weather may be too cool to go swimming, walks on the beach and boat rides offer opportunities to enjoy the water. Hikes in the fall lend to wildlife watching, foliage changes and mild weather.
Other activities in the autumn season include fall harvest festivals, apple picking, visits to pumpkin farms with hayrides and mazes, and traveling to see an away game of your home football team.
Fall is my favorite time of year to use our family pop-up. Without air conditioning in our camper, traveling in the summer isn’t an option with small children. Many of our favorite campgrounds have slowed down, nearing the end of the summer season, leaving attractions free of crowds and light on traffic.
One fall event that I look forward to every year is the MacQueen Orchard’s Apple Butter Stir and Craft Festival in Holland, OH, the first week of October. The quaint orchard I am used to visiting throughout the year for apples, homemade pies and local products, turns into a huge attraction drawing visitors from all over the area.
This event is just one to draw people to visit the Toledo area in the fall. For lodging, head your RV over to the Stony Ridge KOA in Perrysburg, OH and make a trip out of it!
