We belong to several RV clubs. Here are quick descriptions, and our reasons for belonging. Pick and choose the club or clubs that you might need for your own RV travels.
Ever wondered if you should join an RV club? "Yes"! You say. But which one should I join? This question evokes more even questions, until your mind goes into overload. We belong to four RV clubs at present, and I will tell you everything I know about each of them.
I'll list the clubs that we belong to in least to most favorite order.
1. KOA (Kampground of America). Joining this club gets you a 10% discount at KOA campgrounds. It pretty much pays for itself the first time you use it! Perhaps you are seeking employment - they have a job listing on their website. Here you can search for KOA campgrounds that are seeking help. You can post your resume and send it to the campgrounds, or post it and the campgrounds can search individuals listed resumes. We join this club on an as needed basis. When we decide to stay at a KOA, we join to get the discount. When renewal time comes we let it drop till we need it again, and then join. As members we take advantage of searching the help wanted ads, but have not yet taken a job at a KOA.
2. Good Sam Club. The membership gives you a 10% discount at participating campgrounds. We are lifetime members of this club, although I'm not real sure why. The website has a lot of travel information available, such as road conditions and weather. The club has chapters which are made up of members living in a given area. The club has various activities for its members. One is sponsored rallies that members can attend. These rallies may be small local ones, sponsored by local chapters, or large national events. Another event would be what is called "Caravans". Those are made up of a group of members that are all taking the same trip...say to Mexico or other neat places.
3. Passport America. This club is pretty basic in structure - it gives a large (like half price) at participating RV parks Most of the parks are not five star, tend to be a bit out of the way and don't have a lot of amenities, but camping at $12.00 per night sure beats $25.00. There is a rather large book of participating parks and the book is amended regularly. We have stayed at a number of these parks in route, and if you are just staying the night (and don't mind driving maybe 10 miles out of your way) then you can save quite a bit of money.
4. Escapees. This is my favorite club. With this club you get a 15% discount but most of the time you must ask for it (look for the logo). They will try to give you the Good Sam and not the larger Escapees discount. This club has some of its own RV parks as a member, you can stay at these parks for about $10 to $12 per night. These parks are five star and have some of the friendliest people we have ever met.
