For some unknown reason we were camping at the Escapees RV park in Coarsegold, CA. Incidentally that is one of the benefits of the RV lifestyle: you don't have to be somewhere for a reason...you can just be there.
I was sitting on the patio, beverage in hand, reading the latest Workamping job postings bulletin from Workamper.com. One of the listings was seeking managers for a pumpkin lot in Palo Alto, CA. That was not really that far down the road.
I talked to my wife about the possibilities of applying for the job. She seemed to think that it would be to confining and too much work for the money - and definitely not if they wanted us to stay and do a Christmas tree lot.
There was nothing in the ad that indicated a Christmas tree lot, so I decided to give them a call and get more details. You know, "just to satisfy my curiosity." Talking to the person that placed the ad only tweaked my curiosity more.
Here is some of the information that I was given:
- The money was for approx 35 days. We would need to be there to site sit for deliveries prior to Oct 1 and then sit a few days after Oct 31 until all equipment was picked up.
- They would bring the equipment in a semi truck set the lot up for us, keep it stocked, and tear it down after. All we would have to do is run the lot.
- They were the farmers that actually grew everything that they would sell on the lot. They owned the inflatable rides.
- We would be given money to purchase anything that we would need in the operation of the lot: "you don't have to ask, if you need it buy it."
- There would be a couple of inflatible rides that would need to be taken down at night and covered, then uncovered and inflated in the morning.
- They would be adding a small petting zoo after we got set up - not much - a goat, sheep and a few chickens.
Sounded good to me. Well wife, what do you think? "Well, I still think it might be too much work but if you want to give it a try we can give it a go". I made the call to the farmers and we took the job.
